The boys from Boat have taken their time with it. They haven’t rushed the process of learning and experimenting and developing a sound. That’s why they sound good.

‘Under Fortune’s Wheel’, their first full length CD, is the result of over 3 years of writing, jamming, arranging, experimenting, arguing, laughing and rearranging. The recording was produced using a 4-track reel-to-reel machine as well as a fully digital studio. This combination provided the mixture of analogue warmth and digital definition which gave the recording its unique sound. All of the tracks began with the raw feel of a live take, and were then lovingly mixed with overdubs to add the fullness and energy which a studio album demands.

Boat’s members have all been performing music for years and have played many different styles including Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Country and Heavy Metal. Their sound has also been influenced by their formidable CD and record collections. Some of the bands they would cite as being influential include; Van Morrison, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Band, Paul Kelly, The Cruel Sea, The Velvet Underground, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and The Dirty Three.

Eilon’s passion, other than percussion, has always been acting. This brings an interesting theatrical dimension to Boat’s music. Eilon and Cameron’s recent forays into the Theatre/Cabaret scene have strengthened Boat’s live performances. The band has also improvised live soundtracks to silent films.

Boat launched its debut CD in February 2002 to a packed house at Bar Open. Since then Boat has been playing around the inner suburbs of Melbourne - an area which abounds with some of the best musicians in the world. Their audience is steadily growing as the band impress with their dynamic live performances and their ever expanding repertoire of original songs. Stay tuned.
